The MPV season is in full-swing as all three major Japanese marques have already, or will be debuting more MPVs in the near future. Nissan won't be resting their laurels with the C28 Serena, as rumours from Japan have pointed at a new Nissan MPV positioned below the Serena.
According to a report by BestCarWeb, Nissan is said to be developing a new MPV that’s based on the Nissan Note’s CMF-B platform, aimed squarely at rivals like the Toyota Sienta and Toyota Sienta.
Currently, the model with the longest wheelbase developed on the CMF-B platform is the Renault Arcana, coming in at 2,720 mm. BestCarWeb reckons that the upcoming Nissan MPV will get the same wheelbase and as such, putting it toe-to-toe against the Sienta (2,750 mm) and Honda Freed (2,740 mm).
Like its core rivals, the new MPV will likely boast a 3-row seating configuration, seating 7 passengers in the process.
In terms of powertrains, this new Nissan MPV will almost certainly receive the same 1.2-litre petrol-electric e-Power hybrid as the Nissan Note. Because the e-Power is a series hybrid, the tiny 1.2-litre engine only serves as an on-board generator for charging the batteries.
Its main source of propulsion is the EM47 electric motor which does 116 PS and 280 Nm, though for the case of the heavier MPV, the motor could output 136 PS and 320 Nm.
BestCarWeb speculated that the new 7-seater Nissan MPV could debut as soon as Spring 2023. Stay tuned for more updates.
