Nissan Leaf out to prove it’s not boring with challenge of a century 01

We’re all well acquainted with the Nissan Leaf, the first-ever mass-market electric vehicle (EV) with an unbeatable range and affordable price (at least not in Malaysia). In other words, a boring EV car. But Nissan is out to prove that the Leaf is not just more reliable than a Tesla but can be just as exciting with this very unique sprint race.

In a video uploaded on Nissan’s official YouTube channel, the Nissan Leaf challenged mother nature’s fastest elements, the wind and fire, to a 0-100 km/h sprint race.

For the test, Nissan closed off an area at Samroiyod Beach in Thailand and set up a one-kilometre long strip for the sprint.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1685525140735-0'); });

A champion kite surfer represented the speed of the wind for the challenge, while a Pyrotechnician set up a “fire-line” for the race against fire.

For your information, the Nissan Leaf’s e-Powertrain is capable of making the century sprint in just 7.9 seconds. Nissan is using the Leaf’s exciting sprinting ability to show the world that EVs can be as dynamic and exciting as the Nissan GTR.

Watch the video and see if the Nissan Leaf managed to beat two of nature’s fastest elements!

There isn’t a time in memory that doesn’t involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
