Nissan Will Phase Out Titan XD's Cummins Diesel Engine

Nissan announced that it would stop producing Titan XD's 5.0L Cummins diesel V8 engine in December 2019.

Wendy Orthman, Nissan spokesperson, said that the Cummins engine option will soon be put out to pasture. Nissan schedules to adopt the almost-outdated engine to build a pickup by the end of 2019. This is likely to be its last use, and it will no longer be visible in subsequent updates.

"This will help better position Nissan in the long term as we prepare for the launch of the new, refreshed 2020 Titan and Titan XD Gas later this year," Orthman said to the media.

The 5.0-liter V8 turbodiesel is a Nissan-specific powerplant built by Cummins that makes 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque. Its power is more than sufficient and the fuel consumption is lower than that of Raptor. It's a piece of cake for Titan to go on a trip and tow a yacht or a RV under the support of the engine.

However, the 2016 Titan XD owners were trapped twice in 40,000 miles previously - when the vehicle is running, the sound of the diesel engine is noisy. Other than that, the emissions of diesel gas can not be ignored, and the power system needs to be further improved.

Nissan sold only 20,268 Titans in July, according to its latest sales report. Compared with 27,271 cars sold in the same period last year, dropped by 25.7%.
