The G05 2023 BMW X5 has been given a mid-cycle refresh with redesigned front and rear ends, plus updated electrified powertrains.

The new headlight units in the 2023 BMW X5 facelift have a slimmer outline. Their arrow-shaped daytime driving light elements point outwards and also serve as turn signal indicators.

Matrix LED headlights with adaptive control and BMW Selective Beam non-dazzling high beam, plus M Shadowline lights, are available as options. The illuminated BMW kidney Iconic Glow is also available as an option for the six-cylinder variants of the 2023 BMW X5.

The front bumper has a wider intake at the bottom with vertical air vents that channels air around the fenders. The taillamp graphics are also revised.

Inside, it gets the curved dual-widescreen display made up of a 12.3-inch digital instrument display behind the steering wheel and a 14.9-inch infotainment display, running on BMW Operating System 8.

The touch control functionality of the control display has brought about a significant reduction in the number of buttons and switches in favour of digital control for numerous functions.

Another new feature is the ambient light bar with LED backlighting integrated below the trim element in the front passenger area.

The control panel on the centre console includes additional touch-sensitive surfaces and a smaller gear selector lever.

Amongst the options list for the interior are “thermo” function for the cup holders, the Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof illuminated by LED units, glass applications for selected controls, and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System.

As for powertrain, all drive units feature 48V mild hybrid technology. This across-the-board application of electrification comes in the form of an electric motor integrated into the transmission. The motor generates an output boost of up to 12 PS/200 Nm.

The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) 2023 BMW X5 xDrive50e gets a new generation 3.0-litre straight-six turbocharged engine, coupled with a more powerful electric motor that makes 197 PS/450 Nm on its own, making a maximum combined output of 490 PS/700 Nm.

The new generation 3.0-litre engine is said to have made improvement to the combustion process, gas exchange, valve control, injection and ignition system. It makes 380 PS/520 Nm in the 2023 BMW X5 xDrive40i.

Adaptive suspension comes as standard while adaptive two-axle air suspension and the xOffroad package are offered as options. The range-topping models are equipped with Integral Active Steering (rear axle steering).

The ADAS is updated with enhanced capabilities for the standard front-collision warning system, which can reduce the risk of a collision with cyclists, pedestrians or oncoming traffic when turning off a road.

The 2023 BMW X5 facelift will be built at the BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the US, the competence centre for BMW X models, and global launch will commence in April 2023 with sales in major markets to follow after.
