The list of cars Malaysia is set to welcome is a densely populated one, and among the many models there's the all-new 2022Honda Civic (FE).
Our checks with several sources indicates that the 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated (NA) mill (which currently serves in the Civic FC 1.8 S) will be discontinued, and all variants at launch are very likely to only get the 1.5-litre VTEC turbo engine.
This arrangement mirrors that of our regional neighbours – Thailand dropped the 1.8-litre NA option, while Singapore didn't carry forward the Civic FC's 1.6-litre NA engine.
Though details of the Malaysian car's output are yet to be revealed, the Thai-spec Civic makes 178 PS and 240 Nm, a 5 PS and 20 Nm increase from the outgoing model (173 PS, 220 Nm).
In Singapore the Civic makes less power – 129 PS and 180 Nm – but that's in the interest of pricing, as it then qualifies for lower insurance and CO2 tax rate.
If this turns out to be true, it spells the end of the long-serving 1.8-litre mill that first started its Civic duty way back in 2006 with the FD-series.
But it will be a while yet before Malaysians get to drive the all-new Civic – note that its initially-planned Q3 2021 launch here has been pushed back (due to Covid-19 related restrictions) to next year.
