Ahead of its imminent launch (you can register your interest as well), we managed to get our hands on a Malaysian-spec leaflet for the 2021 Toyota Harrier. As we previously feared, yes it will no longer be powered by the 8AR-FTS turbocharged 2.0-litre. Will we miss it? Time will tell.

In its place is Toyota's Dynamic Force 2.0-litre naturally aspirated 4 pot (173 PS, 203 Nm) which is paired to a Direct Shift CVT transmission. Basically, this powertrain combo is identical to the one pulling duty in the Lexus UX. The Harrier, like its stablemates, sits on the TNGA platform (dubbed the GA-K, with rear double wishbones!) which promises an immersive steer.

Powertrain aside, the Harrier gets Toyota's latest and greatest kit, starting with Toyota Safety Sense. This means the Harrier packs a full ADAS suite that includes;

• Pre-crash System PCS
• Lane Departure Alert LDA with steering assist
• Lane Tracing Assist LTA
• Full-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control DRCC
• Adaptive High-Beam System AHS

Other notable equipment include a fixed panoramic roof, hands-free tailgate operation, and blind spot monitor. To recap, the outgoing Harrier - turbocharged engine and all - retailed from RM 238,000 when it was launched in 2017. Watch this space as we will update the prices as soon as we have it.
