Europe is set to be the third region to receive the all-new 2022 Nissan X-Trail, when the new SUV hits showrooms in Summer 2022.
Unlike the US and Chinese-spec X-Trail variants, the European market model will get a powertrain of its own, more specifically the e-Power series-hybrid powertrain.
While Nissan did not provide specific details regarding the X-Trail’s e-Power powertrain, back in February, the company did reveal details surrounding the 2022 Nissan Qashqai – the X-Trail’s smaller sibling. In the case of the Qashqai, it will be fitted with a 190 PS electric motor and a turbo engine that does 156 PS.
The all-new X-Trail should mirror the Qashqai's powertrain.
Separating itself from hybrids you’re used to, the petrol engine in Nissan’s e-Power models does not drive the wheels. Instead, the petrol engine is used sorely as a generator to charge the high-voltage battery. Nissan's e-Power series-hybrid is considered as a full-hybrid since it can accelerate the vehicle from a standstill using electric power alone.
To recap, the all-new Nissan X-Trail made its global debut in the US back in June 2020, before finding its way to China last month.
The US-market Nissan X-Trail (sold there as the Nissan Rogue) gets a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol engine, while China is the first market to receive the all-new X-Trail with a tiny turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that does 204 PS and 300 Nm.
"The renewal of Nissan's line-up continues at pace. The new X-Trail will remain true to its well-established SUV formula which has proved so successful for Nissan since the introduction of the first model in 2001. It will offer more efficiency, refinement, versatility and user-friendly technology. And it will complement its electrified crossover cousins in the range, giving customers an outstanding SUV with an electrified powertrain for their daily needs," said Guillaume Cartier, Chairperson, Nissan Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania (AMIEO) region.
