No-car Fridays: DBKL wants staff to experience public transport 01

To show its aspirations to be a low-carbon city, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) announced plans to implement no-car days on Fridays for their staff.

DBKL believes that encouraging its employees to use public transport would help reduce the use of vehicles in the federal capital.

The plan was revealed at the opening of the new KL SDG centre

Kuala Lumpur mayor, Mahadi Che Ngah said that DBKL is currently still studying the feasibility of banning its employees from driving to work every Friday.

But for a start, the city council has started giving away My30 monthly travel cards to its employees as part of the encouragement to use public transport more often.

Other than that, Mahadi also revealed that DBKL is also planning to develop solar farms at several lakes in the city to replace the use of fossil fuels.

This is in line with the plans announced during the reading of the 12th Malaysian Plan (RMK-12) earlier this week.
