The Land Rover Defender is one of the most iconic SUVs in the world and while there are some mixed feelings on the design, the all-new Defender has proven itself to be one of Land Rover’s most successful models. It’s also finally making its Malaysian debut very soon on 21-October 2021.
The 3-door Defender 90 won't be launched here yet
The launch will be livestreamed via Land Rover Malaysia’s Facebook page at 11 am and the Defender will only be available with one body style – the longer, 5-door Defender 110.
The Malaysian-spec Defender 110 will be available with two powertrain options – a twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre P300 inline-four engine (300 PS/400 Nm) or a turbocharged 3.0-litre P400 inline-six mild hybrid (MHEV) engine (400 PS/550 Nm). Both engines are paired to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission with a 2-speed transfer case.
A Land Rover in its natural habitat
Despite a more modern and urban design, the all-new Defender is still capable on the beaten path. It has a wading depth of 900 mm and features a Wade Program within the Terrain Response menu.
This feature combines the SUV’s electronic air suspension which raises the vehicle with the SUV’s ultrasonic sensors to alert the driver visually and audibly if the water approaches the maximum wading depth.
The Defender is also built on a lightweight aluminium monocoque architecture to create the stiffest body structure ever made by Land Rover. It also has a maximum towing capability of 3,500 kg and a maximum static roof load of 300 kg so you could put a bike rack and possibly more on a Defender’s roof.
Prices will only be announced on the launch date but if you’re interested in the all-new Defender, you can book one at any Jaguar Land Rover showrooms nationwide. All Land Rover vehicles come with the Land Rover Care programme, which includes a 5-year warranty, 5 years of free service, and 3 years of roadside assistance.
