Nurse in Perodua Myvi crashed into ambulance responding to emergency call

An incident where a Perodua Myvi driven by a nurse knocked over a speeding ambulance that was responding to an emergency call in Melaka has gone viral on social media.

According to Harian Metro, the accident took place at a traffic light junction in Taman Bertam Impian at 7.30 pm on 1st February 2021.

Central Melaka district police chief ACP Afzanizar Ahmad said that the ambulance was reportedly responding to an emergency call and rushing towards the direction of Cheng and heading towards Sungai Udang.

The 51-year-old ambulance driver had jumped the red light at the traffic junction before the Myvi, who was heading in a different direction, collided with the ambulance causing it to flip over.

Initial investigations revealed that the Myvi driver claimed to have lost control of her vehicle before she collided with the ambulance. Thankfully, both drivers did not sustain any injuries during the accident.

The case will be investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving. If convicted, the Myvi driver will face up to 12 months’ jail and a RM 10,000 fine.
