Vehicle sales for Malaysia in October stood at 56,670 units, which is an increase of 5.2% from the 53,870 units a year prior.

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said in a statement that the country’s vehicle sales rose 0.4% from the 56,444 units registered in September. This puts October’s sales figure as the second-highest in 2020 after July (57,552 units).

The reason for the higher year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter sales was due to new model launches as well as ongoing promotional campaigns.

For the first 10 months of 2020, total vehicle sales in Malaysia were still lower at 398,159 units compared to the 496,855 units that were registered in the same period in 2019.

Despite the slight uptick in October, MAA has said that November sales are expected to be lower due to a full month’s impact from the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) on all states in Peninsular Malaysia apart from Pahang, Perlis, and Kelantan.

Buyers are also more cautious in visiting automotive showrooms which are expected to cause a drop in sales.

In terms of production volume, October witnessed an increase of 5.12 % to 58,631 units compared to 55,775 units in the same month last year. That said, total production of the first ten months saw a decrease of 22.21% to 374,494 units from 481,428 units in 2019.
