In just over a month since pre-orders of the Toyota Corolla Cross in Japan started, more than 13,000 orders have already been placed according to BestCarWeb, far exceeding the monthly sales target of 4,000 units.

However, it is worth noting that sales of newly launched models will typically show a spike in demand but will normalize after 3 months. A more reliable indicator of actual demand would be data from the fourth month of sale onwards.

Deliveries are estimated to be between four to six months depending on trim selected. BestCarWeb also notes that there are uncertainties surrounding the deliveries due to the suspension of production plants in Japan.

To recap, the Japanese-spec Corolla Cross is available with either petrol (1.8 2ZR-FAE) or hybrid (1.8 2ZR-FXE) powertrains. The petrol-powered variants are paired to a Super CVT-i automatic transmission that drives the front wheels while hybrid variants are also available with four-wheel-drive (4WD).

Rear suspension setup differs according to drivetrain; front-wheel-drive variants feature torsion beams in the rear while 4WD ones get a double wishbone setup.

Just like in other markets, the Japanese Corolla Cross comes equipped with ADAS including AEB, lane tracing assist (LTA), radar cruise control, and blind spot monitors.
