On the sidelines of the 2022 Perodua Ativa Hybrid handover to customers in Kuala Lumpur today, Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said that over "600 units" were applied for.

"For now, there's roughly 600 applicants [for this model]," he said to reporters at the event. This is double the total 300 units of Ativa Hybrid allocated for Malaysians, all of which have been spoken for anyway.

That's certainly a good start to Perodua's electrification journey, as the Perodua Ativa Hybrid serves as a feasibility study of sorts to gain a deeper understanding of consumer behaviour on electrified vehicles, as well as acceptance to the leasing formula.

The 2022 Perodua Ativa Hybrid is Perodua's first electricfied vehicle, based on the Daihatsu Rocky e:Smart Hybrid. Under the hood is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor, and claimed fuel consumption is 40% better than the regular Ativa turbo can muster, at 3.2-litres/100 km.
