Over RM 200 mil invested in Proton’s Tanjung Malim newest plant expansion

Proton has just begun the groundbreaking ceremony for the latest expansion of its Tanjung Malim plant. The new stamping facility will house a new Superlarge press machine to further enhance stamping abilities.

With over RM 200 million invested in this new facility, it is part of Proton’s plan to make Tanjung Malim a world-class manufacturing plant. This is on top of the RM 1.2 billion that was spent previously.

The new machine will allow for the stamping of much larger pieces of bodywork and other parts. This investment is part of the Malaysian carmaker’s growth strategy as it plans to increase levels of localisation, both for current and future models.

Dr. Li Chunrong, Proton’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said that this new addition allows Proton to grow continuously and have the ability to build more variants to the highest standards as well as incorporating new technology.

The new stamping facility will flank the existing line and is expected to be completed by the 3rd quarter of 2022.
