Owner review: Nationalism, Patriotism, and Loyalty - My 2017 Proton Perdana 2.4L 01

Basic information of my car:

2017 Proton Perdana 2.4L

window.googletag = window.googletag || {cmd: []}; googletag.cmd = googletag.cmd || []; googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.defineSlot('/22557728108/my_article_fourthp_under_pc', [ 728, 90 ], 'div-gpt-ad-1685525140735-0').addService(googletag.pubads()); googletag.pubads().enableSingleRequest(); googletag.pubads().collapseEmptyDivs(); googletag.enableServices(); });
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1685525140735-0'); });

Reasons why I bought this car

I’m a very patriotic person. I grew up with national cars. Perdana means “Prime”. And it’s a must for me to have this Prime National car by Proton. And also, I saw our former PMs (Tun Mahathir & DS Najib Razak) Proton Perdana on television and the internet, I totally fallen in love with it. Yeah, I know it’s actually Honda Accord beneath this Perdana. But come on lah… It’s still Proton Perdana.

Car selection process

  • I had a budget of: RM150K
  • Models that I have considered include: None. I really wanted to buy this Proton Perdana. Okay lah… I compared a little bit with Honda Accord, because this Perdana was based on the accord, and also Honda Civic because it was launched few days before Proton Perdana.
  • Reasons why I chose this car:

It’s extremely very cheap car compared to other D-segment cars, but with Honda quality and performance. It looks very handsome and luxury. It’s also very spacious. The rear seat legroom makes me feel like sitting in a limousine. And the boot size is incredibly huge.

User experience

  • I have already done 58044 km.My average fuel consumption is 15km/l.

Since the purchase of this car, I am very satisfied with it. I am going to be honest. I have 5 cars in total. 2 Germany made cars, 1 American made car, and 1 Japanese made car. And this one Proton Perdana is the easiest car to be taken care of in term of maintenance. Not much problem cost by this car. My American made car, few years after use, less than 5 years if I’m not mistaken, had to overhaul the engine already. I know people always say that Proton aftersale service is very bad. But it depends on luck. I guess it’s my luck, I got a very good aftersale service by Proton for this car. All praise to God.

Other than that, from my experience of driving this car, this is a really a head turning car. It really attracts people to look at it. But I think it’s because it’s in black color and it has emblem on the front and rear of the car.

Pros of my car:

  • Very spacious interior

  • Rear seat are like sitting in limousine

  • Very cheap D-segment car

  • Extremely comfortable

  • Great driving experience on highway

  • Good fuel consumption

  • Limited in Malaysia. You can consider yourself as “rare” when you drive this car

Cons

  • Technology very extremely out of date. With the same price of this car, i can get lot of choices of other imported cars with very modern and updated technologies

  • Slow to accelerate.

  • Sparepart is not easy to get

  • Very long car, not easy to park and to drive in small space area. Very difficult to make side parking

  • LED daylight not lasting long enough. From white it turned yellowish. And now, it’s almost totally out. And to change the new one, quite pricey.

  • Have to prepare our ear to hear people’s voice of condemning it. People will say it’s a copy of Honda Accord. Or Accordana. and so many other things

  • People will think you are driving a government car, although it’s your own car

Summary :

This is a very fun car to own and to drive. You have to drive it, to feel it, only then you can appreciate it. But for my case, my car is black in color, and I have emblem both at the front and the back of the car, with my young age, people think I'm a "driver", not the owner.

Interesting event:

If you want to be a “Fake Datuk or Tan Sri”, but you don’t want to spend lot of money on your car, you should really get this car. Sometimes I can get special parking spot when I drive this car. And they even treat me like a VIP with this car. People always think this car is expensive. Some of them asked me if it’s over RM200K. If only they knew this is a very affordable car. The cheapest car in D-segment. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
