Reasons why I bought this car(purpose)

It was passed down by my grandfather and I have used it for almost 5 years.

Car selection process

Before that I thought of buying myself a newer car. And my choice is the 2012 Proton Saga FLX SE.

Reasons why I chose this car

I used to drive a 1996 proton wira 1.6 XLI given as the first car by my parents after I acquired my driving license but after driving it for a year my grandfather swapped his 1993 Mercedes W124 which I'm driving now is considered more reliable and safe on the road. 
Thanks to its 2.8 litre straight six engine with 193hp and 280 nm of torque, it's not considered a fast car by today's standard but it's beyond enough for a daily drive car.

User Experience

• I have already done：223,000 km.
• My average fuel consumption is: 11.6 km/l

As for the fuel consumption it's really not that terrible compared with my old proton wira. I used to travel a lot before this pandemic with the Merc and it never let me down as it's one of the overengineered models Mercedes have ever released by the era. With the benefit of the 6 cylinder engine, the cabin feels nothing and quiet like the engine was not even running.

Pros and Cons

Pros of my car

1. it's really durable
2. considered fuel saving for a big cc engine
3. it's comfortable and easy to drive
4. interior never ages and looks luxury as always
5. features such as abs,airbag,hydraulic steering,fully 
6. independent suspension etc....in a 28 years old car!!
7. easy source and reasonable price of spare parts

Cons 

1. a slightly higher price for its roadtax per year (RM1,630)
2. the famous digradable wiring harness for this era of Mercedes benz
3. various parts like interior wood trims or air cond vents and hard to find in good condition

Summary:

After inheriting this W124, it cost me a fair amount of money (around 10k+) just to restore it to its finest condition because it's quite beat up when I first got it from my grandfather. My father told me that my grandfather was so into the W124s when I was little and I have no clues about it before, but now I finally understand the true meaning behind my grandfather's obsession with W124s. It's designed by the legendary Mercedes designer Bruno Sacco and it's meant to be everlasting instead of durable.

Interesting events:

Through the restoring road of this W124, I have met a lot of friends with similar interests. I've learned a lot from them sharing their experience and this is the joy of owning an old car.
