Owner Review: An excellent highway cruiser - My 2019 Honda Accord 2.4 VTi Advance

2019 Honda Accord 2.4 VTi- Advance

Reason why I bought this car

I am looking at a comfortable car that suits long distance drive and fully equipped with advanced safety -ADAS.

Also, reliability and maintenance is important because it will become the main car in household. It must serve the family at least 10 years without frequent visits to SC for small issues.

Car selection process

• I had a budget of: RM 150k
• Models that I have considered include: Toyota Camry, Mazda 6, Proton X70, Volkswagen Passat

The reason why I choose this car

Toyota Camry 2.5V and Mazda 6 2.5 are out of my budget range, almost reaching 200k at that moment.

Volkswagen Passat is really tempting with the huge discount and handsome outlook but the reliability is an issue as I previously owned a Volkswagen Polo 1.6 Sedan.

Almost paid booking fee for a Proton X70 but due to SUV higher ground clearance make it a bit unsafe incase of roll over or impact force and higher ground clearance means my parents need to climb up and down. It is a bit tough for older people.

After checking out the Honda Accord (I didn't manage to find a showroom car for the 2.4 VTi- Advance), I had a friend drive the 2.0 model and I knew the features and basics of the car. Done study for the 2.4 Earth Dreams Engine, Honda Sensing Package. Proceed to place booking for the car.

User experience

• I have already done 24,000 km
• My average fuel consumption is 9~10 L/100km

The car is an excellent highway cruiser, KL -Penang manage to get 18-0km/L and a full tank up to 760-800km. This is for 90% of the highway.

Safety is top notch. ADAS saves a lot of trouble and makes cruising much easier. Active Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist -With correction helps a lot in long distance cruise. Lane Keeping Assist -but it only works when above 75km/h.

Earth Dreams 2.4 DOHC -not the most powerful in segment but it is sufficient for daily use and little bit of aggressive driving. The power is there when you want to overtake or a steep hill.

Pros & Cons

Pros

• Space - definitely spacious and comfortable
• Safety - Honda Sensing
• Maintenance -normal service is around RM400-M500; major service is around RM1200 (never did major before, based on service schedule pricing) 
• One of the last Naturally-Aspirated 2.4 engines.

Cons

• Length - At 4.935metres long, parking space is a challenge especially road side parking.
• Fuel - 2400cc is not fuel efficient when city driving, especially in traffic jams.
• Power delivery - NA engine needs to rev above 3,000rpm to get the power.
• Camera - lack of front camera. Additional front camera will be better due to the length of the front portion.
• Handling - more to comfort, body roll is visible especially sharp for turning.
• Tires - Michelin 18 inch is expensive, PS4 is about RM700+ per piece.
• Head Unit -Often hangs when using Apple CarPlay, no option for Android Unit because of LaneWatch Camera & ADAS settings.

Summary

A huge upgrade that can easily last for next 10 years without worrying about the safety features and reliability.

No regrets getting this last Naturally-Aspirated 2,400cc Earth Dreams engine (not a turbo fan here). Power delivery is really smooth and rev-ing the engine sounds excellent.

I will definitely keep this car as long as I can.

Some interesting events

I am the 90’s driving a  D-seg became a common question when I bought the car. Even my parents were surprised I bought an Accord.

I always prefer large cars such as Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Toyota Alphard, Honda Odyssey, even the Nissan Elgrand.

It is comfortable to drive and I do enjoy driving it. I did my own detailing for full car coating, weekly wash, maintenance waxing to keep it shiny and bright as long as I am keeping it.
