Owner Review: The flagship. The 7. My story of 2014 BMW 740Li F02 model

Basic information about my car:

2014 BMW 740Li F02 model. 7 series facelift with Long wheel base. 

User Experience:

I always like BMW 7 series since I had my first 740Li e65 model in 2003 previously. The car comes with top notch safety advancement, and well equipped with advanced features which you have yet to see on other cars. She is a symbol of luxury and status, and being the top series of BMW it always come with full loads with specifications and the built quality & materials used are tip top. The driving comfort, performance and space offer are one of the top class in its segments.

To substantiate my comments I am actually comparing it with my Mercedes Benz S-class at the same times. Being a privileged owner who are able to own 2 top classes luxury sedans I could sense, feel and touch the both variants side by side for fair comparison. BMW 740Li offers twin turbo with inline 6 cylinder engine able to churn out more than 300ps horse power and such power is responsive enough to pull such a big sedan cruising around town as well as speeding on highways can remain comfort and steadiness on ride. That is what I love 7 series.

On top of that, I always like to enhance my cars with some touch on sport rims, body kits as well as paint work. This particular has no exception too. In order to stay outstanding on the road I decided to ‘transform’ the decent looking luxury sedan to a more aggressive looking which inspired by Alpina B7 (BMW exclusive partner for enhancement works).

I changed the colour from metallic brown to Alpina’s signature Matt finished white, 20” Alpina sport rims, the front end is trimmed Alpina signature graphical lines, Alpina carbon fibre boot spoiler, bigger exhaust tail pipe, and other little touch in the interior. The whole car has changed into Alpina B7 styling which attract a lot of attention especially car enthusiasts. 

 I always feel that in order to experience the true quality of BMW, 7 series is one of them despite the car depreciation value is horrid. I bought it at RM825k (inclusive of road tax & insurance). The car price starts at RM818k for 740Li model. BMW only launched 2 models under 7 series family. There was an 730Li selling at RM640k but in term of power, quality and specification it is not way to match with 740Li.  So I only considered 740Li as my only option. I like Jaguar XJ and Audi A8 but never fancy to own them somehow as compared to the passion I have for BMW. I do own other series of BMW too.

This car have been with me since 2014 and already clocked in more than 70k km so far. The car is reliable. Fuel consumption is around RM1 can travel up to 3km distance. Not too bad in my view. The fuel tank is huge. One time full time can go up to 650 to 700km distance. I consider the fuel consumption is reasonable and the car is not thirsty like Range Rover V8 5.0cc (my other SUV)

Summary:

Owning a BMW is like ‘Love & Hate’ relationship. Despite BMW cars do give me some trouble or problems, but somehow, they are still a solid and performance driven cars. This particular 7 series is reliable despite some issues here and there but still fixable easily. The maintenance costs might be high at some points. In general I don’t really spend a lot on repair frankly. The engine is reliable and solid. The issues usually started from features such as suction control of the vaccum doors, aircond blower, gasket ring leakage, electrical control seats and the super intelligence headlights. After all these are consider wear and tear for the age of the car. Still tolerable.

The only big drawback is that this car is superb overall but the depreciation value is scary. I have losses 6 times of its value in today’s valuation. However, I have yet to see any other BMW’s series can exactly supersede its status, quality and features. I still think BMW 740Li is one of the best car ever built amongst all BMWs. It may not be the most powerful car or fastest in all the series but it is certainly the most luxury car comes with well balance in all areas which no other series could compete with.
