Basic information of my car:
2012 Mazda CX-5 2.5 L
Reasons why I bought this car
I needed a daily driver that was reliable as well as fun to drive.
Car selection process
- I had a budget of: RM 280,000
- Models that I have considered include: E92 BMW M3
- Reasons why I chose this car:
I was looking to buy a second hand/recon BMW M3. But the thought of the lack of qualified mechanics to service such car in a small city where I lived dawned on me. So I went to my brother-in-law to seek for advice on choices.
At first, he mentioned about Mazda’s, how good the CX-5 was with its handling and comfort as an SUV. I hesitated at first because their car design language have not been that great to look at. After doing some research, the new CX-5 adopted its new “Kudo” design language and it was sporty to look at and since my brother-in-law tests car as a side job, I went with his recommendation.
User experience
- I have already done 50000 km.
- My average fuel consumption is 11.5 L/100km.
The Mazda CX-5 is the jack of all trades. The ride comfort absorbs our notorious road bumps quite well. The traction and suspension helps keep your car planted in slippery conditions. I’ve had an incident where I lost some grip during a heavy rainy day, turning into a corner too fast. But its AWD system managed to instantly recover the grip even with my tyres half worn-out. The seating position is ideal for long journeys e.g. less pressure on your heels. The light but solid steering feel still provides good feedback on road. It feels refined and well-engineered when driving the vehicle. I've had no mechanical break-downs issue till this day. A true reliable machine.
Pros of my car:
- Excellent fuel consumption.
- Great ride comfort.
- Great steering feel.
- Good reliability.
- Engine power is sufficient for real life usage.
- Braking is well tuned to not be jerky.
Cons
- Old bluetooth audio system is slow.
- Slightly lowered compression ratio to take in RON95
