After videos of an argument between a politician and a police officer outside the Raub court complex went viral, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has started 2 investigation papers against DAP committee member Ronnie Liu.
Pahang Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Mohd Yusri Othman told the media that the investigation is being carried out under Regulation 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021.
Liu was discovered to have breached Movement Control Order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOP) as he crossed Selangor-Pahang state borders to enter Raub without any travel documents or permission.
According to Inspector Azri, the police officer who first discovered Liu’s lack of travel documents, an assemblyman can only travel within their district without permission but not across state borders.
Mohd Yusri backs up Inspector Azri confirming that although Liu can cross states as a politician, it is still dependent on the SOP stipulated by the National Security Council (MKN).
The second investigation is carried out under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties. In viral videos uploaded across various social media platforms, Liu was seen trying to argue with Inspector Azri over the issued summons.
On Monday, Liu was heading to the Raub court complex to attend remand proceedings against 18 durian farmers alleged to have encroached into a permanent forest reserve in Pahang when he was stopped at the gate and asked for travel documents.
When he failed to produce the relevant documents for travelling from Selangor to Pahang, Inspector Azri had proceeded to issue a summons. This led to the heated argument outside the Magistrate Court gate.
Since the video went viral, Inspector Azri has received high praise for his integrity as he was unafraid to issue a summons and even stop the Toyota Vellfire that was used to transport the state assemblyman.
