Much like all other carmakers, Perodua is a happy camper following the recent announcement by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) allowing customers to enjoy the sales tax exemption as long as their vehicles are booked up to 30 June 2022, seeing that they’ve got significant orders and have already registered 106,179 vehicles between January and May this year, a 10 percent increase than the 96,281 units during the same period last year.
Unsurprisingly, the Myvi continues its reign as the king of the road and sales, being the most popular model with 31,689 units registered in the first 5 months of this year, followed by the Perodua Axia at 24,024 units and the Perodua Bezza at 23,336 units.

It’s only going to get better for Perodua with an abundance of orders in the book and their customers will undoubtedly feel reassured knowing that the grace period for the exemption will be extended.

“To date, we have significant outstanding orders which we are working to fulfil. We appreciate our customers’ patience in this regard,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

According to a media release issued by the Ministry of Finance on 20 June 2022, those who have made bookings up to 30 June 2022 can enjoy the sales tax exemption initiative as long as their vehicles are registered on or before 31 March 2023.

“We sincerely thank the government for this announcement as it gives the industry and the market breathing room to meet consumers demand while at the same time give the players time to overcome various issues that are affecting the industry,” added Zainal.

He said among the issues that are currently impacting the local automotive suppliers range from the lingering impact of Covid-19, the component shortages and manpower shortages.

“These issues are currently being addressed as Perodua and our suppliers are finding solutions and this registration extension will give us much needed room to overcome these issues,” he added.
“Better late than never.” Some despise it, others begrudgingly agree with it but he swears by it… much to the chagrin of everyone around him. That unfortunately stems from all of his project cars not running most of the time, which in turn is testament to his questionable decision-making skills in life. A culmination of many wrongs fortunately making a right; much like his project cars on the rare occasions they run, he’s still trying to figure out if another project car is the way to go.
