![Petronas denies report that it is pulling out of Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team 01]()
Over the weekend, various media reported that Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) will be pulling out of its decade-long partnership with the Mercedes-AMG Formula One team. Petronas has since issued a statement to The Edge denying the reports that it is ending its partnership with the championship-winning team.
News that Petronas will be ending its long-time partnership was first reported by Decalspotter. The website further reported that Saudi petrol company, Aramco, will take the vacated title sponsor position.

However, GP Fans later reported that a Mercedes rep debunked the news and confirmed that the team and Petronas will not be parting ways any time soon.
The spokesperson for Mercedes told GP Fans that the two companies had only just signed a multi-year cycle in 2020 and will continue their partnership as it is “mutually beneficial to both parties”.

The statement issued by Petronas to The Edge echoes the sentiments though the statement did not elaborate the details of the multi-year partnership extension.
Petronas and the Mercedes-AMG F1 team have been title and technical partners since 2010, the start of the team's dominance in the sport's hybrid era winning seven consecutive championships.

The partnership between Petronas and the team was renewed a total of three times from 2015-2017, 2018-2020, and then again from 2021 onwards. With that said, Petronas is probably one of the fuel sponsors working with F1 regulators to create the sports' new sustainable fuel that will be used in the 2030 season.
