Police are looking for cyclist seen tailgating trailer in viral 2-minute video

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is looking for the cyclist seen following a heavy lorry closely in a video that went viral over the weekend. The police are encouraging anybody with information about the cyclist to come forward.
According to K! Online, the video was allegedly recorded on 17-September-2021 along Jalan Kuantan, Gambang by another lorry driver driving directly behind the cyclist.
In the two-minute 34 seconds video, the driver recording the video could be heard berating the cyclist for his actions and even expressing concern about his safety.
Meanwhile, the heavy trailer ahead could be seen speeding up and the cyclist would then too pick up his pace to maintain his close distance with the trailer.
Kuantan district deputy police chief, Superintendent Mohammed Rizal Kamaruddin told the media that the police have started an investigation on the matter. They are currently trying to identify the cyclist and asking the public who has information to come forth to the police.
“The actions of the cyclist are a violation of Section 42 and Section 54 of the Road Transport Act 1987. If convicted the cyclist can be fined RM 300 for the first offence or RM 1,000 for repeated offence or even face jail time.”

What the cyclist in the video is doing is known as drafting. The driver recording the video is right to be concerned about the cyclist’s safety.
Other than the debris that could have hurt the cyclist, there is also the possibility that the trailer would need to jam on the brakes. If the trailer does execute an emergency brake, there’s no telling if the cyclist would turn into roadkill.
