UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has unveiled their latest addition to their Toyota Corolla Cross (Specs | News) lineup – the Corolla Cross GR Sport. Like it says on the tin, it's a sporty variant of the popular SUV, and as such boasts an edgier design and subtle performance tweaks, amidst the features that are ported over from the regular cars.
It's priced from RM 142,000, and the complete price list are as below:
Taking pages off the on-track forays of Toyota's Gazoo Racing (GR) division, the Corolla Cross GR-S wears a sporty front grille, exclusive front and rear bumpers, as well as pretty stylo dual-tone, 18-inch alloy wheels.
Smoked LED tailights give it extra sophistication, while GR badging scattered around the body tells other people you paid extra too.
Plus, two-tone colourways are the only choices available. Paired with a black roof, here are the prices: Platinum White Pearl (RM 2,000), Nebula Blue Metallic (RM 1,500), and Red Mica Metallic (RM 1,500).
Interior: Sporting ambitions
The predominantly black cabin of the Corolla Cross GR Sport also benefits from the breadth of GR's accessory catalogue. You'll get GR-branded seats (same 8-way power adjustable for the driver, manual for the passenger), a GR start button, GR floor mats, and swathes of piano black where trims were once silver.
Much of it remains familiar – your Android Auto, Apple CarPlay supporting 8-inch touchscreen infotainment stays, while the steering wheel and gear knob are still leather.
Performance: Updated steering, suspension
Based on the V variant, the Corolla Cross GR Sport is still powered by the same 1.8-litre NA engine that's in the regular car. Outputs from the four-cylinder mill are unchanged: 139 PS and 172 Nm.
The upgrades to the SUV encapsulate a new 'Sports ECU' for the electric power steering, to boost feel and response. Suspension has been fettled too; now with special tuning for its springs and struts. These are coupled with the addition of a Performance Bar for added rigidity.
The Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport is available for viewing in GR Garages and GR-S showrooms (not every Toyota showroom sell the model, so please tick the appropriate filter here) starting tomorrow. All Corolla Cross variants are backed by a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty.
