Proton X90: Malaysia to get 7-seater variant? Geely Haoyue-based model spied again 01

This is the Geely Haoyue – perhaps we'll know it as the Proton X90 soon enough – spotted testing along the NKVE. It's a welcome sight, since the last time it was spotted was way back in January.

The Ajerul's set of photos offer a closer look at the left-hand drive SUV. Like its exterior, most of the details surrounding the model are still secrets, but there are rumours circulating that it could make its local debut sometime this year or in 2023.

Unlike other recently-launched Geely models, the Haoyue is not developed on the BMA or CMA platform, but on the CV platfom which debuted with the Geely Jiaji.

There's a few configurations of the model: it's available in either 5- or 7-seater guises, and with different powertrain options too.

Customers in different regions get to choose between a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-pot with 184 PS / 300 Nm (China) or a 1.5-litre three-cylinder in other markets, like in the Philippines and the Middle East. The three-pot mill is linked to a 48V mild-hybrid system, so output is higher at 190 PS and 300 Nm.

Both get a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT). As far as engine choices go, we'd wager our purported X90 is to use a three-cylinder mill - though whether it'll be electrified or not is another question - the same engine that's fitted to the Proton X50 and Proton X70 facelift.

That's explained by Geely's global focus and keen eye on cost-effectiveness – reasons of which can be read in the piece linked below.
