Nissan claims that the rated fuel consumption for the Nissan X-Trail 2.0L is 13.4km/litre, which translates to about 7.5 litres per 100 km. We put it through our WapCar Ratings test to find out how many litres of fuel does the Nissan X-Trail consume.
To recap, the 2.0-litre engine naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine produces 144 PS and 200 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The CVT keeps the engine operating at its optimum rev range to maximise fuel efficiency. It also makes city driving a smooth affair. Since all variants of the Nissan X-Trail wears a set of relatively small 17-inch wheels, it helps with fuel efficiency as well.
Before starting the test, all tyres were inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure of 230 kPa for the front tyres, and 210 kPa for the rear tyres. The tyres are Continental CrossContact LX Sport measuring at 225/65 R17.
The X-Trail’s 60-litre fuel tank is filled up to the brim with RON 95 petrol using the ‘three-click’ method – have the fuel nozzle jump three times with 10 seconds between each jump.
Driving behaviour was as slightly heavier footed than normal, although the speed limit was capped at 110 km/h. Air conditioning was set at 22 degrees and fan speed 2. Eco mode was not engaged and only the driver is in the car throughout the test.
At the end of the test, we’ve covered 134.2 km with a journey breakdown to almost 50% highway 50% city driving. The trip computer displayed an average fuel economy of 10.5 litres per 100 km.
How many litres of petrol did the Nissan X-Trail consume?
We made our final stop at a petrol station and refuelled using the same ‘three-click’ method. The fuel tank required 12.99 litres of fuel which works out to fuel consumption of 9.6 litres per 100 km as tested.
How many Litres is a Nissan X-Trail?
The X-Trail has a 60-litre capacity fuel tank which means based on our fuel consumption test result, it has a theoretical range of 625 km per full tank.
Although we obtained 9.6 litres per 100 km for the Nissan X-Trail's fuel consumption, it may go up further as this is a 7-seater SUV and only the driver was in the car. As for the rated fuel economy of 7.5 litres per 100 km, we reckon it is achievable, provided a more sedate and smoother driving style with more highway mileage.
