The next-generation Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ is expected to be introduced some time in 2021, whereby the Toyobaru duo, as some call them, will be overhauled.
First up is the new design – some well-known Japanese outlets have begun rendering the all-new Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ, giving us a speculative look at the new rear-wheel drive coupe.
The rendered 86/BRZ gets a sharper-looking front-end with a pair of headlights that extend upwards. On the current Toyobaru duo, the headlights are horizontal. The rendered version of the 86/BRZ also gets a more angular front grille, flanked by boomerang-shaped front fog light surrounds.
Towards the rear-end, the 86/BRZ gets an Aston Martin-esque design, with the number plate recess repositioned to the bumper. The rendered 86/BRZ also gains a pair of simpler-looking tail lights in the process.
Underneath, the brand-new Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ is said to feature the same platform as the current-generation model. According to sources, the 2,570 mm-long wheelbase is identical to the current model.
The all-new Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ is expected to ditch the current 2.0-litre engine in favour of a larger 2.4-litre flat-four that does 220 PS and 240 Nm, 13 PS and 28 Nm more than the current model. We can also expect the 6-speed manual to be offered, alongside a brand-new automatic transmission.
The Japanese source also speculated that next-gen Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ will feature Subaru’s EyeSight ADAS suite – something which the current model lacks.
