Renew road tax in Malaysia. Online? Go to JPJ? How ya?
Malaysia is mostly reopened, and the chaos from the movement control orders are now mostly a nightmare of the past. However, does this mean that you can now go back to JPJ to renew your road tax? Or do you still have to renew your road tax online?
Renew your road tax – we highly recommend you do it online
It would be a real waste that a lesson as severe as the pandemic and the MCO(s) did not improve our nation’s digital literacy. What’s more, the pandemic is not over, so social distancing is still of paramount importance. With this said, we highly recommend you renew your road tax online via the MyEG website.
Here is a step-by-step guide on navigating the portal if you need it. To do this, you will need your JPJ vehicle registration card, and the previous insurance cover note.
Step 1: Head to MyEG and select ‘Check & Pay Road Tax’
Step 2: Log in with your details, or start a new account if it’s your first time here
Step 3: Select ‘Car Road Tax Renewal’
Step 4: Fill in all the details as necessary, and select ‘Home/Office Delivery’ under collection method, because a few extra ringgits to have it delivered to your doorstep is totally worth it.
Step 5: Pay what you need to pay
Step 6: Profit! Simply wait for the road tax to arrive to display it on the car.
A final note
Sometimes it does take a few working days for the new road tax to arrive, and so your current one may lapse while waiting. Bring along a receipt of this new road tax in your car in the meantime, and if you are stopped, try to ask for the good grace of the Abang Polismen and hope for the best.
In the future, just know that your road tax can be renewed 2 months before expiry to avoid this scenario happening.
Renew your road tax – head to any JPJ counter near you
