UMW Toyota Motor announced that the sales of the all-new 2023 Toyota ViosAC100 will continue as there are no issues with the safety standards and quality of the vehicle, the company announced after re-tests.
President of UMW Toyota Motor, Datuk Ravindran K. said, “For customers who have booked their all-new Toyota Vios or are interested in purchasing it, we would like to assure you that the all-new Toyota Vios model complies with all safety regulations and there is no compromise to the quality of the vehicles.”
This follows the statement released by Daihatsu Co Ltd. on 28-April 2023 highlighting a procedural irregularity on the testing of four models, one of which includes the all-new Toyota Vios.
To recap, this issue revolves around compliance to the international United Nations standard for side-impact crash safety protection, known as the UNECE R95 standard, and its equivalent GCC Standardisation Organisation (GSO) adopted by the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) in the Middle East.
The part fitted into the door frame during the test has a design that prevents it from making a sharp cut on the inner door panel, which could injure occupants. This improved part design was not installed on production cars.
UMW Toyota Motor says that subsequent testing has validated that the AC100 Vios meets the UN-R95 certification and there is no need for the Toyota Vios to be recalled as sales of the vehicle continues without disruption.
“We sincerely apologise for any distress caused to our customers and we wish to assure everyone of the safety and quality of our vehicles. Our commitment to our customers’ safety has always been and remains our topmost in our priority”, he added.
In a related matter, Perodua has also announced that their all-new 2023 Perodua Axia (D74A) is safe for driving, and no recall will be issued, nor will sales of that model be halted.
