The 2022 Lexus NX is one of Lexus’ most successful models to ever hit its home market, which historically is not a bright spot for the brand, as wealthy Japanese buyers overwhelmingly prefer a Mercedes-Benz or a BMW.

The reasons behind the latest Lexus SUV’s ability to win over buyers who would have otherwise gone a German marque have already been covered in our earlier post.

The waiting period for the Lexus NX in Japan has now swelled to 2 years, an issue that is amplified by the shortage in semiconductor and other automotive parts. China’s expanded lockdowns due to Covid-19 is not helping matters.

As of June, Lexus Japan has collected over 35,000 orders for the NX, but could only deliver 20 percent of the total.

Checks with several popular used car sites in Japan show that they are plenty of barely used 2022 Lexus NX with less than 1,000 km on the odometer.

The listed asking price for 35 to 40 percent higher prices, regardless of variant, than what’s quoted by Lexus dealers for a new NX.

Closer to home, deliveries of the Lexus NX are still hampered by limited supply (all Lexus models sold in Malaysia are imported from Japan), but the waiting period is not as severe.

Thankfully, overseas markets like Malaysia get higher priority, and most of the backlogged orders in Japan are for the NX 350h and NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid variants, which are not sold here.

The NX 250 and NX 350 F Sport variants sold in Malaysia have a waiting period of around 3 to 4 months.
