RIP to one of the best modern kei cars, the Honda S660 could be discontinued soon

The Honda S660 was first introduced in 2015 and received its mid-life update in January 2020. Now in its sixth year of production, it appears that Honda could be discontinuing the pint-sized roadster before the year ends.

According to a report from Japan, Honda appears to be winding down production of the S660, as evident by a notice on the S660’s Japanese model page, mentioning “Some variants and colours may not be available. Please contact the sales company for details”.

This comes as no surprise, as Honda plans to electrify their Japanese line-up by 2023. Unfortunately for the S660, it is not fitted with an electrified powertrain, instead relying on a turbocharged 660-cc three-cylinder petrol engine. Power output figures of the Honda S660 are 64 PS and104 Nm. A six-speed manual or a CVT-type automatic are offered, sending drive to the rear wheels.

Another possible reason is that the recent global shortage of semiconductors could have negatively affected the production of the Honda S660.

Putting aside this less-than-pleasing news, Honda is set to introduce the all-new Honda HR-V (also known as the Vezel) in Japan in February – one month earlier than what we reported in the past. More details here.
