Mazda’s SUV offensive will soon hit high gear with not one, not two, but five new SUVs. The first of the SUV offensive is the American-built Mazda CX-50, followed by the CX-60.

As reported earlier, the upcoming Mazda CX-60 will be a premium SUV, likely underpinned by a new rear-wheel drive architecture.

Now, fresh out of the grapevine is that the Mazda CX-60 is aimed squarely at the Toyota Harrier – a model that we praised for its superb ride comfort and refinement levels.

Interesting enough, the same source also claimed that the CX-60 are expected to get a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol engine, a turbodiesel 2.2-litre unit, and a 2.5-litre SkyActiv-X petrol engine; the purported 3.0-litre inline-six unit was not mentioned.

Elsewhere, Mazda is also going to introduce a larger CX-80, which is said to be 30 to 40 mm longer to accommodate two more rear seats, turning it into a 7-seater. At present, the CX-80 has no direct rival in Japan.

Both the CX-60 and CX-80 are earmarked for the European and Japanese markets, while the aforementioned CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90 will be limited to American soil.
