After 10 years on sale in Malaysia, the second-generation Toyota Avanza has been quietly discontinued in Malaysia. The model has been removed from Toyota Malaysia’s website.
The second-generation Toyota Avanza was launched in Malaysia back in 2012 and the model received a number of updates over the years.
The most recent update came in 2019 whereby the Avanza received a bump in equipment, including the addition of LED headlights, digital air-conditioning controls, an Android Auto and Apple CarPlay-compatible head unit, as well as blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
Now that the old Avanza has been discontinued in Malaysia, it is only a matter of time before UMW Toyota Motor introduces the replacement model here. Except that it may not be called Avanza.
Per our earlier report, UMWT could drop the long-standing Avanza nameplate in favour of Veloz. At the moment, the Veloz nameplate will be fitted to the Vietnam-spec model, superseding the Avanza name. The same could be applied to the Thai-market model as well.
The Avanza nameplate currently lives on in Indonesia, as the lineage has been split into the Avanza and Veloz, mirroring a similar arrangement like the Toyota Alphard and Toyota Vellfire duo.
The outgoing Toyota Avanza was last priced between RM 77,963 to RM 84,848 and was imported (CBU) from Indonesia. When the all-new Veloz arrives, prices won’t stray too far off the outgoing model’s price, so stay tuned for that. The all-new Veloz will be locally-assembled (CKD) by Perodua, as the all-new Alza will be a sister model to the Veloz.
