Fresh out of the oven, the new 2022 Perodua Myvi was launched last night and was met with much fanfare. Alongside its new looks and enhanced safety features is the new D-CVT (Dual-mode CVT).

Earlier, we’ve dived into what makes the D-CVT tick and how it’s miles ahead of competing CVTs. Now, let’s take a closer look at the Myvi’s new shifter assembly.

Right off the bat – Perodua has revised the gear lever markers. In the pre-facelift Myvi, it was P-R-N-D-3-2, but in the case of the updated Myvi, it has changed to P-R-N-D-S-B.

Yes, S (short for Sport) and B (short for engine Braking) are new. According to the owner’s manual, S mode is used for driving up a slope, while B is used whilst driving down a steep hill. And no, using these modes under these stipulated conditions will not damage your transmission.

In short, both S and B models holds a lower (virtual) gear ratio for better torque multiplication, think of it as shifting into a lower gear in a manual transmission car.

Also new to the 2022 Perodua Myvi is the PWR button on the steering wheel, just like the Ativa. It can be activated when the gear position is in D or S, which enhances the powertrain’s response.

Unlike the PWR button which is fitted only to 1.5-litre variants of the new Myvi, the S and B modes are fitted to all variants.

With the new transmission, Perodua claims that the facelifted Myvi has 5 percent lower fuel consumption than before, rated at 22.2 km/litre for the 1.3-litre variants and 21.1 km/litre for the 1.5-litre variants.

The engines remain as before with a 1.3-litre 1NR-VE (95 PS/121 Nm) and a 1.5-litre 2NR-VE (103 PS/137 Nm) being the two options.

Perodua also claims that the D-CVT has a 20 percent quicker 0-100 km/h sprint time compared to its 4AT equipped predecessor, with the 1.3-litre managing 11.5 seconds and the 1.5-litre achieving 10.2 seconds.

And for those hoping for a manual transmission with the new Myvi, sorry to disappoint as the popular B-segment hatchback is now CVT-only. Perodua said less than 1% of the pre-facelift Myvi buyers opted for the stick shift, so it’s no surprise that it got axed in this update.

There are five variants offered, priced from RM 45,700 to RM 58,800 (OTR without insurance and SST).
