With 2 months remaining in 2022, it’s the season for awards as we are about to usher in the new year. WapCar is partnering with Carlist for this year’s People’s Choice Awards and you get a chance to vote for your favourite cars of the year as well as stand a chance to win some cool prizes!

With 18 categories and 67 nominees in total, it’ll be too long of an article if we fit every single of one of them here. So instead, we’ll just feature one of the categories and it’s literally the first one you’ll be voting for – the sub-RM 60k entry-level sedan and hatch category.

There are 4 nominees here and unsurprisingly they consist of our local carmakers – the Proton Iriz Active, the Perodua Myvi, the Proton Saga, and the Proton Persona.

The cheapest car of them all is the Proton Saga and the top-of-the-range Premium S hovers at around RM 45,000. The name that started the Malaysian automotive industry got its second facelift back in May and now features keyless entry.

Despite being a little bit dated in terms of safety features, the Saga presents proper value for money to those who wanted an affordable sedan. It’s no wonder that it’s the most popular Proton model on sale now.

But if you want something larger then look no further than the Proton Persona. The B-segment sedan saw a facelift introduced in 2021 alongside its twin, the Iriz and though the changes appear to be minor, they are significant, especially for a car that costs less than RM 60k.

Improvements include new leather seats, LED headlights, a floating-style infotainment display, and voice control for the A/C and power windows.

Speaking of the Persona’s twin, the Iriz Active is the third and final Proton nominee in the sub-RM60k category. The jacked-up and adventurous-looking hatchback is the highest trim of the Iriz and is 20 mm taller than the standard Iriz variants.

It bears similar features as the Persona but the Iriz Active gains a few sporty trims inside like red accents on the dashboard and red stitching on the leather upholstery.

Finally, it is the Iriz’s main rival and the unbeatable sales winner, the Perodua Myvi. The King of Malaysian roads received a facelift in late 2021 but unlike Proton’s trio here, the changes aren’t just reserved to a simple nip and tuck outside.

The 2022 facelift sees the Myvi dropping the tried and tested 4-speed automatic transmission for a more modern D-CVT gearbox that was first introduced in Malaysia on the Ativa. Safety features on the new Myvi are also enhanced with the addition of Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention.
