Reeling from a continued semiconductor shortage, Perodua is set to ration vehicle production in an effort to stem the tide of falling sales. Whilst the chip shortage mainly affects the Perodua Myvi, this rationing exercise will spread the available semiconductor supply among Perodua's models
This is according to a newsletter from RHB Investment on MBM Resources, a major shareholder of Perodua. As per the newsletter, "We think the chip shortages are concentrated on the Myvi rather than across the board. Hence, we take the view that a rationing in vehicle production is being exercised, which limits a knee-jerk-type sales volume drops in the coming months."

The RHB newsletter also shared that Perodua's sales volume dropped to 20,339 units for the month of April 2021, a 17% decline from the month of March 2021. Perodua has sold 78,304 units, 33 per cent of RHB's annual projection of 235,000 units, as of April 2021.
Whilst that figure is still slightly below expectation, the newsletter also stated that buying interest should be sustained for the rest of 2021, citing, "This will be supported by the backlog of orders, recent new model launches, and replacement cycle, in our view."
