Save your jokes about unsafe Chinese cars, Haval H6 nets 5 stars from ANCAP with 90% Adult Occupant Protection score

In case you missed it, the Haval H6 has been driving a wrench in sales for popular cars like the Honda CR-V in countries the C-segment SUV is sold. Now the H6 is driving another wrench in terms of safety by scoring 5 stars at the Australasia New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP).
According to the ANCAP test, the Haval H6 scored 90 percent in Adult Occupant Protection, 88 percent in Child Occupant Protection, 73 percent in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 81 percent in Safety Assist tests respectively.
With a score of 90 percent for Adult Occupant Protection, the H6 has one of the highest scores in the SUV segment.
Recent SUVs that were also tested under the 2021 ANCAP standards include the Genesis GV 70, which received a score of 89 percent and the Mitsubishi Outlander which scored 83 percent in the Adult Occupant Protection category.
For now, there is no clear comparison within the same segment based on the new ANCAP rating standard as the H6’s closest rival, the Honda CR-V, was tested based on the old 2017-2020 ANCAP standard.
According to a statement released by ANCAP, the H6 achieved the results thanks to the dual frontal and curtain airbags that come as standard on the petrol variants. The H6 also adds a centre airbag which provides added protection to front-seat occupants in side-impact crashes.
The H6 also comes with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) for cars, pedestrians, and even junction assist, something which not many SUVs of that segment come equipped with.
Other safety equipment includes lane support system (LSS) with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW), and emergency lane keeping (ELK). There is also advanced speed assistance system (SAS) that comes as standard equipment.
Closer to home, the Haval H6 is one of two SUVs that has been earmarked to launch on our shores. Haval has even stated that they will be launching not just the petrol variant but the Haval H6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) as well.
