Sebastian Vettel joins Aston Martin for 2021 season! Is this the moment he made his decision? 01

The rumour-mill has been spinning for months that 4-time Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel is set for a race seat with Racing Point in 2021. But just when all hopes seem lost, Racing Point (soon to be rebranded to Aston Martin) announced that the German driver has signed a multi-year deal to head the team starting from next year.

After the announcement that Vettel will be staying in the sport, it was revealed that the decision did not come easy for him. The Guardian also hinted that the deal had been on the table for months before he ultimately decided to sign it.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Tuscan Grand Prix at Mugello, Italy, Vettel said that “it was close” when asked if he had considered retiring before admitting that his time with Scuderia Ferrari was a “failure”.

So, what made the German ultimately decide to return to the sport?

According to F1-insider.com, the turning point of the situation came after an abysmal qualifying at the Italian Grand Prix last week when Vettel “fled onto his bike and started cycling. Observers said that he wanted to vent in the royal park. Instead, Vettel rode to Parabolica and watched the rest of qualifying” (translated by Google).

As proof, here’s the video of him at Parabolica:

At the moment, Racing Point is enjoying a very competitive season, even earning the nickname “Baby Mercedes”.

But unfortunately, the team is still only fourth in the championship having been docked 15 points for illegally copying parts from 2019’s championship-winning Mercedes. If Aston Martin is to improve on their current pace in 2021, we might see Vettel return to form once again.

Do you think Aston Martin will be able to give Mercedes a run for their money next year? Meanwhile, 2-time World Champion Fernando Alonso has already confirmed to be returning to Formula 1 as well.

There isn’t a time in memory that doesn’t involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
