You would think that since this is the second round of the Movement Control Order (MCO), Malaysians would know better and adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) like the 10 km radius ban. But unfortunately, many are still going against the SOPs by wanting to travel out of their 10 km travel radius.
Harian Metro reports, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has so far received some rather strange excuses at roadblocks set up in states where MCO is reinstated. One of which is a wish to meet up with friends and another being a wish to dine at a favourite restaurant.
Meanwhile, Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner Razali Abu Samah told the daily that out of 698 permit requests to travel, they have rejected 6 requests from Serdang residents due to lack of a solid reason or incomplete travel documents.
He also noted that other reasons such as a death in a family or scheduled medical check-ups that require them to cross the 10 km radius have been approved accordingly.
Razali added that so far, PDRM has yet to issue any compound fines for those that did not follow the MCO standard operating procedures (SOP). Think of this as a short grace period for Malaysians to once again get used to strict MCO travel SOPs.
“We want to make sure that everybody understands the MCO SOPs, hence why we have been turning back those without a valid reason to travel instead of immediately issuing a compound.”
On another note, Berita Harian also reports a stranger set of excuses that the Klang district police has come across during the first few days of MCO. According to the report, the most memorable reason that was given to police in charge at roadblocks was to check if PDRM is doing their jobs.
Other excuses include not knowing that MCO has been reinstated and was travelling with more than 2 people in the vehicle.
You don't know when PDRM will see fit to start issuing compounds again so we advise everybody to stay home and adhere to the MCO SOPs.
The government has reinstated MCO in 5 states and 3 federal territories (Penang, Selangor, Melaka, Johor, Sabah, KL, Putrajaya, Labuan) due to the number of daily new cases still raging in the 4 digits as the health care system is unable to keep up with the high number of new Covid-19 cases. Let’s work together to flatten the Covid-19 curve and allow the front-liners a chance to finally rest.
