Tesla's charge (get it?) in Singapore is gathering pace with reports that Tesla Singapore will open a facility in Toa Payoh, which was previously a Nissan dealership owned by Tan Chong Motors.
This facility will most likely be an official service centre for Tesla vehicles in Singapore, according to Straits Times. It is slated to open in July 2021.There is also a possibility that this facility will also be used to display Tesla models, such as the Model 3.
Plans are also afoot to open Tesla "experience stores" in areas like Raffles City and Jewel Changi Airport. This is similar to how Tesla operates in the USA, where its stores are found in malls. This enables test drives to be conducted seamlessly.
Officially, the only Tesla model you can buy in Singapore is the Model 3, in Standard Range (SGD 116,364 before COE, RM 361,268) and Performance (SGD 158,334 before COE, RM 491,570) variants. No official order numbers are revealed yet, but it is estimated to be around 200 to 500. Delivery of the first batches of Tesla cars have been delayed due to the global chip shortage.
Newly-appointed Country Manager for Tesla Singapore, Christopher Bousigues said, "I hope to bring my experience, from having worked in various markets and industries, to help Singapore in its Green Plan around mass adoption of electric vehicles."
