Spotted roaming in Kuala Lumpur yesterday evening is this 2020 MG ZS EV - an electric SUV. This is the first time we've seen it on the roads, almost four months from its impromptu 'preview' at Berjaya Times Square.
MG will be reintroduced in Malaysia by Berjaya Corporation in 2021, and there is a big chance that MG vehicles in Malaysia will be fully-imported (CBU) from Thailand.
The ZS is an electric vehicle (EV) and is roughly the same size as the Mazda CX-30.
The Thai-spec MG ZS is driven by an electric motor that sends 150 PS and 350 Nm to the front wheels. There's also a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery with a 337 km range (NEDC) on one full charge.
Meanwhile, the MG HS has also been making its rounds on our roads. The HS is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine (162 PS/250 Nm), paired to a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
That's bound to be a Proton X70 rival, and the Thai-spec car has a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) which includes among others - adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane departure warning (LDW) and blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert (BSM, RCTA).
It also includes Apple CarPlay - something the X70 doesn't offer. Enough to steer you away?
