The all-new 2023 Honda CR-V has been spotted in Thailand, just a day after the C-segment SUV made a surprising reveal in China.
If Honda’s previous track record is any indication, the all-new 2023 Honda CR-V could debut in Thailand in late-2022 or early-2023. For context, spyshots of the all-new FE Honda Civic first surfaced from Thailand in January 2021, roughly 7 months before its debut in August 2021.
As with any test mule spotted on the streets, this particular Honda CR-V is covered in copious amount of camouflage, but you can just about see make out the slim LED headlights flanking the new hexagonal grille.
Look closely and you can just about notice the Volvo XC60-ish tail lights peeking underneath the camouflage. The muffler tips look similar to the unit shown in China.
At the moment, the Thai-market Honda CR-V is powered by two engine choices. The first is a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre unit that does 173 PS and 224 Nm, hooked up to a CVT transmission. There’s also a 1.6-litre turbodiesel offered in the Kingdom, that does 160 PS and 350 Nm, mated to a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Upon the arrival of the all-new Honda CR-V, propulsion could come from Honda’s tried-and-tested petrol-electric i-MMD hybrid system. After all, Honda has fitted its i-MMD system to multiple models in the Kingdom, including the Honda Accord, Honda City, Honda HR-V, and Honda Civic.
The introduction of the all-new Honda CR-V in Malaysia won’t be so soon, as CKD production needs a longer lead time to prepare the plant and local suppliers, compared to imported (CBU).
After all, we’re still waiting for the launch of the all-new Honda HR-V and Honda BR-V in Malaysia.
