The next-generation 2023 Toyota Innova will be nothing short of revolutionary for the 7-seater that is also known by some spheres as Indonesia’s national car. Besides getting a TNGA platform and switching from rear-wheel-drive to front-wheel-drive, the all-new Innova could receive a hybrid powertrain and possibly a new name.
But before it gets its official time in the spotlight, a spyshot of the third-generation Innova has surfaced not in Indonesia where the model was first conceived but all the way in India. Only the rear shot is taken, and it is covered up by black and white camouflage with only the rear LED taillights seen.
Other than those, the camo’d Innova sports a shark fin antenna and a rear roof spoiler. We also have a pretty clear shot of a large floating infotainment display in the middle that gives the TNGA Innova a modern and high-class appearance.
Speaking of highs, the Innova in India is seen as a luxury vehicle and a premium transport where it is called the Innova Crysta. For the next generation, Indian media have speculated that it could be called the Innova Hycross while in Indonesia, it might be called the Innova Zenix.
According to our colleagues at AutoFun ID, there have been a few units of the next-gen Innova spotted around Karawang which is where PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia’s (TMMIN) plant is located.
It is expected to be launched in the archipelago in November 2022 with 5 variants reported. 2 of those variants are hybrid and the diesel variants are reportedly dropped for the next-gen Innova.
Both the petrol and hybrid engines are reportedly 2.0-litre units and are mated to a CVT automatic that sends power to the front wheels. Prices are also expected to rise for the all-new Innova with up to 19% increase compared to the current prices in Indonesia.
Back in Malaysia, the outgoing AN140 Innova is only available with 3 petrol-powered variants: 2.0 E (RM 123,880), 2.0 G (RM 133,880), and 2.0 X (RM 141,880).
