Mysterious Civic-based SUV now spotted in China
Larger than HR-V, but smaller than CR-V
Pick this over the Corolla Cross?
What started off as a wild rumour is gradually turning into a reality. We’re talking about the Honda Civic-based SUV that slots between the HR-V and CR-V. Seems like Honda is aiming right at the Toyota Corolla Cross with its brand-new model.
The initial spyshots surfaced from Japan – the same country where the rumour initially started from.
This time around, Autohome has published a lone side view of said SUV right from China, hinting that this Civic-based SUV could be offered in multiple markets.
Despite its heavy camouflage, the side profile of said SUV seems to mirror the mysterious SUV spotted in Japan, down to its twin five-spoke wheels.
Compared to the brand-new RV-generation Honda HR-V, this mysterious model appears to offer more space, as evident from its longer rear quarter glass.
Considering that the Civic-based Honda SUV has been spotted in China, chances are it will go on sale there in the near future. It will face off the Toyota Corolla Cross and its twin, the Toyota Frontlander in the same segment.
What do you think? Could the US-spec HR-V and this recently-spotted Honda SUV point at the same thing, or is it completely different?
What about Malaysia?
At this point of time, it’s a bit too soon to say if this Civic-based SUV will find its way to Malaysia.
In the meantime, the Toyota Corolla Cross continues to capture the subcompact crossover segment, as the RU-generation HR-V is reaching the end of its lifecycle. The all-new 2022 Honda HR-V is just around the corner and it’s a model we certainly can’t wait to sample.
