It has been a little over 3 months since Hyundai Indonesia launched the pre-facelift Hyundai Kona Electric alongside the Ioniq Electric in the archipelago. However, we have found some spyshots that suggest the facelift might be heading there soon.
Indra Fathan shared these photos via his Instagram, and the photos were allegedly taken at a Hyundai facility in Indonesia. Based on the info provided by the Indonesian sleuth, the Kona Electric facelift in Indonesia will be better equipped than the outgoing pre-facelift.
Besides the change in exterior design, the Kona Electric is expected to receive a brand-new black colour and some enhanced safety features including blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert.
As the pre-facelift Indonesian-spec Kona Electric doesn’t have those safety features added, prices would be higher once it arrives there. The pre-facelift Kona Electric retails from Rp 674 million (RM 194,201) in Indonesia.
The Kona Electric is also one of the few models planned to be assembled in Indonesia as Hyundai plans to make the archipelago its Southeast Asian hub.
Meanwhile, there have been no plans for the Kona Electric to arrive here. While the pre-facelift Kona Electric was shown by Hyundai-Sime Darby Motor (HSDM) at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 (KLIMS 2018) and a few units were spotted on public roads wearing trade plates, things have been quiet with the Kona Electric’s status in Malaysia.
The aforementioned cars were used as training cars from the now-closed regional office located in Mutiara Damansara.
Meanwhile, we only received the pre-facelift ICE Hyundai Kona last year, and if you want to see our thoughts on the Korean rival to the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V, you can check that out here.
