Spied: Indonesian-assembled Hyundai Creta spotted testing, to launch end of this year 01

Photos of a heavily-camouflaged compact SUV caught testing in West Jawa, Indonesia surfaced on social media over the weekend. As the location is where Hyundai’s new Indonesian plant in Cikarang, West Jawa, the mysterious car can be none other than the locally-assembled (CKD) Hyundai Creta.

According to Otodriver, Hyundai is currently testing the Creta as a possible replacement of the internal combustion engine (ICE) Hyundai Kona.

The Kona will allegedly live on as an electric vehicle (EV)-only model as part of the country’s ambition to go fully electric by 2050, so the Creta will fill the spot as the petrol-engine option in the company’s B-segment race.

Otodriver believes that the Creta will most probably be equipped with a 1.5-litre engine that churns out 115 PS and 144 Nm as standard.

The Creta is expected to be the first model to be mass-produced for the local market at Hyundai’s new Indonesian plant. For now, though the factory is up and running at 90 percent, the models that are rolling out of the plant are meant for export purposes.

The Indonesian-assembled Hyundai Creta is expected to be exported (CBU) to Malaysia one day.
