New alloy wheels and keyless entry seemingly confirmed
Set to launch later this month
Ahead of its official launch later this month, the new 2022 Proton Saga has been uncovered, courtesy of this Facebook group.
The lone rear three quarter shot of the updated 2022 Saga does reveal some interesting bits, which we will dive into shortly.
The most noticeable change is the new multi-spoke, dual-tone alloy wheels, which could replace the outgoing model’s twin-five-spoke design. Size-wise, the new wheels look to be 15-inch units, as before.
This particular model also wears new front and side skirts, a feature that was only found on black-and-yellow Saga R3 Limited Edition and Saga 35th Anniversary Edition. From the lone spyshot, it’s hard to tell if the designs are the same.
Other noticeable parts on the updated 2022 Proton Saga include the inclusion of keyless entry, black finishing for the number plate trim, removal of the chrome strip on the lower half of the rear bumper, and black side mirror caps.
Seeing that this particular unit is fitted with keyless entry and bodykit, it is possible that we are looking at the new range-topping Saga variant.
Judging from earlier spyshots, the updated 2022 Proton Saga is also slated to receive the new roundel Proton logo on the front, finally replacing the old Proton logo of yore. LED daytime running lights are also expected to be featured on the revised front-end.
As before, power is expected to be derived from a naturally aspirated 1.3-litre petrol engine that does 95 PS and 120 Nm. Whether or not the Malaysian-spec, updated Saga will use a 34-cc smaller engine as seen on the Pakistani-spec Saga remains to be seen.
The Hyundai-sourced 4-speed torque converter automatic should remain unchanged, though it remains to be seen if the updated Saga will get a 5-speed manual. Recall that Proton dropped the manual option on the updated 2022 Proton Iriz and 2022 Proton Persona.
Prices of the outgoing Proton Saga start from RM 32,800 for the 1.3L Standard MT variant, while the 1.3L Standard AT is priced from RM 35,800. The range-topping 1.3L Premium AT variant is priced from RM 39,800.
Proton is expected to launch the enhanced 2022 Proton Saga some time in May, so stay tuned for that.
