Spied: Opel Vivaro-e - First EV van in Malaysia?

A few weeks ago, we spotted an Opel Mokka and Citroen C4 being tested here, both of which are products of the Stellantis corporation. Now though, there’s another Opel seen on Malaysian road, the Opel Vivaro.

The Opel Vivaro is commercial van that is underpinned by PSA Group’s EMP2 platform. Powertrain options include a 1.6-litre and a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine with outputs ranging from 117 PS/300 Nm to 179 PS/400 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic.

There’s also a fully-electric variant with two battery options - 50 kWh or 75 kWh. Driving range in the bigger battery option is up to 330 km on a WLTP cycle. The electric motor produces 136 PS/260 Nm.

So what is the Opel Vivaro doing here? Sources familiar with the matter has confirmed that this is the EV variant (Vivaro-e) undergoing local road conditions testing.

Whilst it may not be introduced in Malaysia, it could be assembled here for export markets. Remember that the Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) plant in Gurun, Kedah, serves as Stellantis’ regional hub for Southeast Asia.
