Now that the country has entered Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), the homologation unit at Proton wasted no time at all to get back on the road. New spy shots of the upcoming Proton X50 was spotted testing on the roads and this time the SUV was spotted with the Infinite Weave grill.

This is not the first time the Proton X50 was spied on the roads. When the SUV was previously spotted in Malaysia, it still had Geely’s expanding cosmos grill.

We’re speculating that this is the X50 bound for the Malaysian market, while the previous spy shots were of right-hand-drive versions of the Geely Binyue that is set to sell overseas instead.

To recap, the Proton X50 is one of the most highly anticipated models that will be launched this year, but unfortunately, the launch date was pushed back due to the coronavirus.

The SUV will most probably be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine that produces 177 PS and 255 Nm shared with the Geely Binyue. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT.

There are talks that the X50 will come with a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine option as well. Speculations started when the Geely Vision S1, that will not be coming to Malaysia, was spotted testing on the roads. We suspect that Proton might be testing the feasibility of the 1.4-litre engine in the Vision S1 in Malaysia’s condition rather than the car itself.

Rumour has it that official bookings for the Proton X50 will start in July 2020 and if all goes to plan, the SUV will see an official debut in September 2020. 

But mind you, these are all rumours, just like the Proton X50 price that previously surfaced on social media.
