Spied: Toyota Hilux’s bigger brother, the 2022 Toyota Tundra, spotted ahead of launch 01

The Toyota Hilux’s bigger brother, the Toyota Tundra, has entered its third generation, replacing the second-generation model that has been on sale since 2007. Now, ahead of its official launch, the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra has been spotted in the wild, presumably somewhere in the US.

As seen on multiple Instagram and forum posts, two undisguised units of the all-new Toyota Tundra were left in plain sight, allowing people to have a good look at the brand-new full-sized pick-up truck.

Both units of the all-new Tundra are finished in red, albeit with two different body styles. The one with the longer rear doors appears to be a Crew Cab variant, while the shorter rear doors could be a Double Cab variant. Both trucks also don dual-tone alloy wheels.

Other spyshots of the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra reveal the front-end of the new truck, depicting a massive grille with Toyota’s logo taking centre stage. And yes, this front-end is slightly different from the TRD Pro variant that Toyota revealed back in June.

But that’s not all – people have even peeked into and took photos of the cabin. From the looks of it, the all-new Tundra, like recent Toyota models, will get a massive touchscreen infotainment display. It also gets a chunky gear shifter and numerous storage compartments in the cabin.

The item that sticks out the most in this brand-new cabin is the USB-A port located below the massive infotainment display – an odd choice considering that car manufacturers have gradually moved on to the newer USB-C port.

Powertrain-wise, Toyota has confirmed that the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra will be receiving a new powertrain called iForce Max. Specific details about the iForce Max are unknown at this point of time, but it could be a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 that’s currently deployed in the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series.

The Hilux shares a similar design as the Tacoma which sits below the Tundra

Although the Toyota Hilux does not share its platform with the Toyota Tundra, there is a possibility that the design cues of the Tundra could be applied to the next-generation Toyota Hilux. As it is, the Toyota Hilux has some design cues from the Toyota Tacoma – a smaller pick-up truck positioned below the Tundra.
